What happens during the first initial session?
During the first session, we explain confidentiality and its limits, therapeutic process is explored, counselling goals identified, and a service plan is made tailored to the individual needs of the client.
For couples and/or families, the process is the same as above except each individual may have a part of session alone to address their particular counselling expectations which will be followed by a joint session to recognize couple or family counselling goals if needed.
What should I expect from treatment?
Counselling therapy is a completely private and confidential process. Positive reinforcements will be provided in a non-judgemental, and unbiased atmosphere where clients can speak freely about things that they are afraid of, things that might embarrass them, or trigger up their emotional unease.
As a counsellor, Farah is trained to see patterns that are good and patterns that are not working. I am trained to safely address these patterns to you, then together we can employ strategies to identify and avoid patterns that are not working.
I may have ideas or recommendations about strategies, but primarily I will help you figure things out for yourself. I can help you discover your own solutions and teach you to remember that pathway so you can find it when you need it again. I will encourage self-reflection and empower your strengths. In treatment, you get safe and supportive feedback while discovering new skills and reflections at your own pace.
Overall, therapy is an active process; this process requires courage, openness, and discipline. For example, as a counsellor I can share relevant strategies with you to overcome anxiety, however, if you choose not to practice them you may not see the result.
What is your cancellation policy?
A 48 hours advance notice is required if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Otherwise, if you miss your appointment, you will be billed for the full rate.
Insurance companies do not reimburse for missed sessions; therefore, you will be responsible to pay the full amount.
Confidentiality – Can I talk to you about anything?
Are you covered by my insurance?
It all depends on what type of extended health benefits you have through your employer. As a registered clinical counsellor in BC, counselling services are normally covered. However, not all insurance companies or plans offer such coverage. Please contact your service provider to see if counselling services are covered.
